gold chain with coin bezel

I have a 22" chain here with a bezel that fits a 1/10 oz coin like a Panda or American Gold Eagle. There is a hallmark on the piece that attaches the bezel to the chain that says 14K HC. It looks and feels like gold. It was sold to the business class customers on a SAS flight in 1984 for $180. Is there any way to tell if the chain is pure gold or gold plated? How do you value a chain like this?

The chain weighs less than an ounce according to my postal scale. 14 ct is not 24. But a pawn broker might tell me if the chain is pure gold or plated...
