We know this quarter was toned in a Dansco album. The album was new and the coin was put in over 4 years ago.

I bought some old, used Wayte Raymond albums because they were reported to produce beautifully toned coins. But mine never did.

My DANSCO's produce very little toning on anything.

It has a lot to do with your particular environment and how the coins are stored.

In the past, I usually purchased extra pages to insert in the albums to "fill" them up. This limited air flow around the coins nearest the spine and minimized toning.

Only recenlty have I removed those extra pages but I'n also not noticed any toning occuring since then.

I just got an ASE album for consignment. It is developing nice toning at the rims. Of course those ASEs tone up faster than any other coin I know.... The color on some is nicer than in the attached photo. Some coins haven't toned but most have. The toning is only at the rims for now. The environment is pretty dry here in California where they have been stored this whole time.

That is the exact, muddy, un-eye-appealing toning I get with my SAE's Carl. My earlier coins (1986-1992) were stored in Austin Texas while the years 1993 - 2007 were stored in Colorado.

Maybe I forgot to buy the "right" DANSCO?   Grin

Aw, there is some color in that rim toning! I think it will develop nicely as time goes buy.

As to the right Dansco a fresh one seems to work better than one stored in the open for years. Some people sprinkle a few drops of water on the pages.  Shocked

I have unconfirmed information, from two different coin people, that a paper towel soaked in ammonia, wrung out,
smoothed out, and placed between Dansco pages, will generate a reaction that causes rapid muddy, but with
blue, toning beginning at the outside edges and working in. It was surmised that 2-3 years would be necessary
to tone entire coins..     Do we need "Myth Busters?"
