OK, I know next to nothing about errors. This coin was returned because of the scratch. Well it sure don't look like a scratch to me. Is this what they call a lamination error? Do I need a different/better photo? Any comment, pointer to info or any help at all is appreciated.

Carl, sure looks like a lamination error.
Can you get a better pic?

Grin I was thinking someone would say that!

I really need a new camera, I landed an entry level job so I should have enough dough for an entry level SLR camera.  Cheesy

In the meantime I'll get more photos of the coin tomorrow and will update this thread.

This is the auction that made the first attempt at placing this one:
1921 Morgan Silver Dollar - Unc - Cartwheel Luster

Just looks like a dark toning splotch. I'm not really surprised it was returned. I was very happy to take the return and my accommodating attitude pleased the buyer who will continue to look at my auctions in the future.

Carl it does look like toning from the auction picture.

Way to keep a customer!

Here are two more tries - maybe you can see more from them. I just sold a few coins and some gold so maybe I really will finally fulfill my threat and buy a new camera!

I have a point and shoot. I've been wanting a SLR for a long time. But there are other things we need so we'll see how it goes. I landed a job so I don't need my lab to study on anymore (CCNA CCNP Lab Routers 2501-2610-2612-2620 Catalyst 2950). If that increases 10 times by tomorrow I might buy a new camera. Otherwise I'll just use my CoolPix and complain. Smiley

The way that last picture looks it could be a struck through error.

You, know, I never did think of a strike through. Certainly not a strike through a piece of wire but very possibly a strike through grease.

Certainly it's a strike thru.  Not grease, but some small scrap of something having body..  A sliver of some metal, or a loose remnant
of some die cleaning apparatus?

What do I know,     really?

Thanks for joining Bill!

I guess the consensus is strike through. I've already auctioned off the coin so it is gone. I wish I knew more about it when I listed it. Oh, well.

Carl this might be better than a camera pics download to your computer http://www.shoptronix.com/Prime-Entertainment-QX5-Digital-Blue-Computer/M/B0002HLKI2.htm

That looks neat! There was another microscope camera thingy at a coin show I attended. It was pretty cool too.

However, first I get a new SLR camera for my main photos and see how that does with extreme close ups. Then, and only then, will I consider a microscope camera. Smiley
