 Sad

In response to a forum members US Coin post this morning, I clicked on his
hyperlink, leading to eBay's "Secure Plus" PCGS coins!  Lo and Behold..Yessir,
lots of coins described as "Secure Plus."  I was amazed so many this soon.

Hmmmmm?  Be aware, unscrupulous, or unknowing, eBay coin sellers are listing
PCGS coins as "Secure Plus" and in fact, they may have been graded under the
Secure Plus service level, but....only one of them, that I could find, actually had a darn
"+" after the grade!!!  They are asking "Moon Money" for them, too.  Be aware, if the
label has the gold shield on the left side, and does not have the (+) appended to the
grade, it does not make the coin worth more......

My understanding of Secure Plus is that this refers to the "security" mapping of the coin and the plus is referring not to a grade of +.

In many purchasing venues, the Secure Plus label will have no more meaning in regards to verifying the coin and slab are not a counterfeit than the current holders. It many cases it is an after the fact of either the coin be an authentic PCGS holder-ed coin or not.

Looking on EBay and searching using Secure Plus as the keywords, I found it more than interesting that all the coins are listed as BINs. What does this say for the confidence the seller has in the "added value" of Secure Plus? Can't be very high, if the market perceived a great value then many if not most of these coins would most likely be listed as true auctions and not each and everyone a Buy It Now instead.  This will surely change as more coins are holder-ed but currently its not much of endorsement of Secure Plus' added value.

 Roll Eyes

Well, since I paid just return postage, I splurged this morning and submitted five (5)
coins to PCGS for their new "Secure Plus" service.   Four of the coins are freebies
due to my having sets at 100%, and in the top Five of their registry.  Each
set qualified for (2) freebies..  The 5th freebie is this quarter's freebie special, and
is also a "Secure Plus" grading.  We shall see what we shall see. I realize no one
here knows my eye for coins, but of the (5) I really feel that (2) of them will
receive the added (+)..  I shall post the results, of course.

They are:  1941-D MS67FS Jefferson (+)
                 1941-P MS67 Walker half

                 1947-S MS67 Washington (+)
                 1947-D MS65 Walker half

Qtrly Freebie:  1892-P MS66 Barber dime (+ Maybe....kinda iffy)

And so it goes..... Kiss

 Shocked

Results finally in from my two "Secure Plus" submissions.

The ONLY coin that was given the coveted "Plus" was my Barber
dime, sent in as the quarterly freebie!  Hmmmm?  Of the 5, I had
the least hope for a (+) on this one!   Oh well...  Ummm, I was
also surprised to note that PCGS took another tru-view photo
of the dime.  It was photographed in an earlier submission.

I then applauded PCGS, on their Coin Forum, for taking the new
picture.  I began to wonder if perhaps those coins receiving the
bonus (+) grade were all photographed, gratis!  But....hark....

I then notice that my 1947-S Washington had been photographed
a second time, as well?  But, the 1947-D Jeff, also a pre-Secure Plus
Tru-view candidate, was NOT photographed again???   It was,
IMHO, the most colorful of the (3) that had nice toning!!

Oh well...

 Tongue
Unfortunately, the small photo of my dime had a .bmp extension and I was not
allowed to attach it.  The larger of my pics has a .jpg extension, and WAS attached
w/o problem?  Hmmmm?  Most singular, that..

 Embarrassed

Has anyone else here used the Secure Plus service for a coin that was
previously tru-viewed?  Did you lose the photo?  Was your coin
photographed again?  Did your coin receive the "+?"
No one has bothered to reply to my PCGS forum
query, so I'll ask here....Huh

Huh?

I had the admin add .bmp to the types of files allowed as attachments.  Wink Since bit map files are not compressed they are usually frowned upon - they take up too much space. But, heck, Carl's Coins forum isn't anywhere close to even denting the generous disk space allocated to it so what the heck. I haven't tested it yet so don't know if that is all that is required to allow bmp files...

BTW that is one heck of a nice dime! It truly deserves a +. That is exactly what a plus is needed for. Technically PCGS might think there is one hit too many for the 67 grade, but this coin certainly looks nicer than most MS 66 Barber dimes out there.

THANKS!  Also, your comments as to the looks of my dime are more than appreciated!    Kiss

 Shocked

You just HAD to post your Ike, huh?   Wink   Cool beans..

I have zero interest in Ike's unfortunately, but isn't yours a scarce, and much
sought after, variety?   I believe I once queried a forumite over an offered AU58 Type 2
from '72, and I was floored when he wanted $125.00!   WOW...  You did very well with
your resubmission!!

In ref to my previous posts, I determined that PCGS did NOT take another
tru-view shot of my dime.  They did, tho, change the cert number to reflect
the revised number. I am just as happy with that... Wish they had done the
same with the Jeff....Oh well..  I want too much out of life, it seems..
